WALNUT — Derek Frahm won an outstanding pitchers duel over Colton Barton Tuesday night as Walnut edged Iowa Christian Academy 1-0 in Rolling Hills Conference baseball action.
Frahm, now 4-0 on the year, fired a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts and just one walk, not allowing a runner past second base. The Warrior senior has now recorded 60 strikeouts in 27 and two-third innings and carries an impressive 1.01 earned run average for the season. Frahm retired the first 12 I.C.A. batters – 10 on strikeouts – and allowed only three base runners the entire game.
Walnut scored an unearned run in the first inning off Barton, who allowed six singles, walked none and struck out 10 in defeat.
Ty Johnk scored the game’s only run, reaching on a one-out single and crossing the plate with the help of two errors and a passed ball. Johnk and Austen Stevens both finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base for Walnut.
The Warriors improved to 4-1 in the RHC and 8-1 overall.
